Business Sector Data Base — Content Documentation
Introduction
The Business Sector Data Base contains data for 26 of the OECD Member countries related to business sector value added, employment, investment, factor prices and capital stocks, from 1960 to the present day, and are stored in quarterly form. The underlying data base was developed for use in the analysis of production and supply issues in the context of the OECD's regular surveys and assessments, and related empirical studies.
The BSDB is revised on a semi-annual basis to take account of new data releases.
For the purpose of the BSDB, the business sector is defined as the institutional sector whose primary role is the production and sale of goods and services. This sector corresponds to the aggregation of the corporate, quasi-corporate and unincorporated enterprises, including public enterprises.
The quarterly data are presented in level form at annual rates. The series start in 1960 and are seasonally adjusted. It should be noted that not all series are available for all countries, and that some series do not have data entries for the entire period.
Notes on Data
For most countries, the data on capital stock and on scrapping rates are based on estimates of national authorities. However, for the United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Japan and the United States they are based on OECD estimates.
For Norway, business sector variables cover the mainland economy only. Exceptions are the variables EEP, ES, PIB, TYB and WSSE EEP Dependant Employment in Private Sector ES Self-Employed PIB Deflator for Business Investment TYB Direct Taxes, Business WSSS Compensations of Employees that cover the total business sector.
For Germany: as the authorities no longer publish separate accounts for Western and Eastern Germany, all data series refer to Germany from 1991 onwards, and to western Germany before 1991.
