Indicators of Industry and Services (ISIC Rev.2)
The Indicators of Industrial Activity (IIA) publication provides an overall view of economic developments, relating to output, deliveries, orders, producer prices and employment, in a number of industries in OECD Member countries.
The current edition is an historical electronic version of IIA which presents all indicators:
╖ available from January 1975 up to December 1998; ╖ disaggregated down to the 3-digit level of ISIC Revision 2, with a few 4-digit sectors when available; ╖ index form with base 1990=100.
All information has been regrouped by industrial sector, according to the former version of International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities, ISIC Revision 2. It corresponds to the short-term industrial statistics that were formerly published in IIA (on paper, diskettes and magnetic tapes) on base 1990 and in ISIC Revision 2. All such statistical information is now collected and disseminated according to the new version of International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities, ISIC Revision 3. That the reason why this historical database has been prepared with the aim of giving long-time series according to ISIC revision 2 which can serve as a basis for long run economic analysis and be used to complement the short-term industrial indicators now published with base 1995, in ISIC Revision 3 with series from 1990 at the earliest.
However, up to now no attempt to link both sets of data has been undertaken by the OECD, and for various reasons (the most evident being the new base year, new classification, and changes in methodology in most countries), simultaneous use of these data should always been done with great care and caution.
Data correspond to all quantitative indicators available from January 1975 up to December 1998 when provided by countries.
Statistics are classified by economic activity following the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC) adopted in February 1968 by the United Nations Organisation (Statistical Papers, Series M, No. 4, Rev. 2, Add.1, New York 1975). They refer to industrial sectors (2, 3 and 4).

The quantitative statistics shown relate to: ╖ Production ╖ Deliveries ╖ New orders ╖ Unfilled orders ╖ Producer prices ╖ Employment
The statistics are published as indices, on the base year 1990 and are expressed in the form 1.000, so as to enable comparisons between countries. Indices of production and employment have been calculated for the four area totals for ISIC Rev.2 categories and divisions. The period covered varies according to the availability of national data. Weighted sums of the available component country data, have been used.
Seasonally adjusted data are compiled either by the countries or by the Secretariat. In the latter case the "X12-Arima version of Method-II of the United States Bureau of the Census" is used. As a rule, seasonally adjusted indices for industrial production are available for all categories and divisions whereas for deliveries, orders and employment, only total manufacturing (Major Division 3) is given.
