Compared to the 3 000 million tonnes handled in maritime transport, the volumes of freight and mail transport by air are obviously low. The table still shows that EU air transport increases substantially. And even though the volumes are small compared to other modes of transport, the average value of the one tonne of air transported goods is almost always much higher than in other modes of transport.
